8 years ago today, Landon John made me a mother. So today, I celebrate him and the interesting and wonderful boy he has become. If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you know I (try) to do this once a year for my kids on their birthday. Since I’m not super great about writing everything down in the baby books, I try to make up for it each year here on the blog. This will be my longest list to date (obviously), so I had some fun this year and shared some things you might not know about him. Mostly, I think about him reading this when he’s older, and how fun it will be for him to see what he was like as an 8-year-old. (By the way, you can read last year’s post HERE.)
1. Landon is super competitive.
As his number one fan, this makes watching him play sports really fun. It can also be heartbreaking at times too because when his team is not winning I can see the panic on his face. My own mom has always told me that she could read my face like a book, so he definitely inherited that from me. Nevertheless, I love that he puts his whole heart into whatever he’s working on – whether it’s trying to win a basketball game or get the award for the most minutes read for his school Read-a-thon.
2. Landon loves learning new things.
If we’re interested in doing it, (especially if Dad is), he’s interested. From magic tricks, cartoon drawing, photography, and most recently, learning how to change at tire, Landon is always game.
3. Landon appreciates a good bubble bath.
Okay, this one’s kind of silly but I love a good bubble bath, so I appreciate that he loves them as much as I do. Plus, it provides good entertainment for everyone. One of my favorite things about our house in Santa Monica is our master bath tub, so I’m glad the boys take advantage of it – getting clean and having a good time.
4. Landon’s into exploring new foods.
As someone who loves all kinds of food, it’s so fun to watch him try new things. He isn’t afraid to try anything – he even ate fried crickets with me in Mexico. Most recently, he’s on a seafood kick. I will say this habit can be an expensive one, especially since he’s decided his favorite seafood is mussels.
5. Landon is becoming a great coach.
He’s really taken to coaching Liam in sports, and it makes my heart explode to watch. I’m most impressed with his patience. He even figured out a way to score Liam’s t-ball game. Of course, I have to give credit where credit is do, and it has a lot to do with the fact that his dad is such a great coach.
6. Landon still likes to snuggle.
He’d probably wouldn’t admit to it, but he still likes to snuggle up to Sean and I when we’re watching TV and most nights still asks for us to lay down with him when he goes to sleep. The minute I think about denying him, I remember that there won’t be many more years (or maybe even months) of him asking us. As you can imagine, I don’t have a picture of this one . . . at least not yet. 😉
7. Landon is really creative.
Whether it’s a new LEGO creation, writing a story, or taking a cartoon he’s drawn and making it life size, he continues to impress me with his creativity.
8. Landon’s a great role model.
Sure, he has his moments of annoyance with Kiera or fighting with Liam, but for the most part he is very kind and understanding with both of them. I’m so glad they both have him as a role model.
I hope I didn’t annoy you with all my gushing, but I allow myself to do this once a year, and after all, I am his mom. 😉
