Happy almost Thanksgiving!
It doesn’t really feel like the holidays if we don’t have the appropriate holiday books scattered throughout our house. We’ve been growing our collections since Landon was a baby (so for over a decade).Ā Our Thanksgiving collection isn’t quite as large as others, but here’s 5 of our favorites from this year:
1ļøā£ Five Silly Turkeys
This is Colin (age 2) & Kieraās (age 4) favorite. Itās perfect for toddlers and preschoolers – lots of fabric-tabbed pages. It’s the perfect board book to throw in the car or take with you on the plane if you’re traveling for the holiday.
2ļøā£ The Great Thanksgiving Escape
This has been Liam (age 7) and Landon’s (age 10) favorite for a few years. Itās a hilarious story about what itās like for a kid who’s feeling overwhelmed by family on Thanksgiving.
3ļøā£ Balloons Over Broadway: The True Story of the Puppeteer of Macy’s Parade
This is new book for us this year, and I love it! Having spent so many years in NYC and a few actually in the Macyās Thanksgiving Day parade you would have thought I knew the story of how it all came to be. I did not, but now I do thanks to this book!
4ļøā£ Dino-Thanksgiving
We love Lisa Wheeler’s Dino series and have almost all of her books. It’s a fun read sharing Thanksgiving traditions, and the kids get a kick out of seeing the dinosaurs celebrate the holiday just as people do.
5ļøā£ What Was the First Thanksgiving?
Liam and I are reading it together, and it’s led to lots of discussions about how and why Thanksgiving actually happened. It has maps, pictures, and simple storytelling to keep the kids engaged. It would also be a good read for older kids to do on their own.
If you have any favorite Thanksgiving books please share in the comments! I’m always looking for good ones to add to our collectin.
