Get Listening for Self-Care

“Listening” is probably my most frequent form of self-care right now . . . because of my obsession with podcasts. I love them!

I listen to podcasts in the car, while I’m cooking, while I’m working out, or while I’m folding laundry. When I’m listening, the kids are usually not around, there’s no list-making of what I still need to do or trying to multitask and get work done at the same time. In my opinion, it’s also way better than watching TV because I can move my body while I’m listening. I do recommend investing in some cordless headphones to really make the most of it, like the Tenergy T20 Bluetooth Headphones.

I’m not saying your form of self-care has to be podcasts. It could be turning on your favorite music while taking a bath or listening to an audiobook instead. Whatever it is, putting on some headphones once a day to clear out the noise in your head (or in your house) is a great way for you to take a few minutes each day to “do you.”

So here are a few of my favorite podcasts, audiobooks and/or music that I’ve been listening too lately:

Podcasts:

I’ve included my top 3 in a few different categories I thought you might be interested in: Motherhood, Health & Wellness, and Pop Culture. I have a bunch of business-related ones I listen too as well that I can include in another blog post (Let me know in the comments if you have any interest in that.) I have been interviewed on a few of these podcasts as well (which is how I discovered them), and I included those links as well.

Motherhood:

These are some of my favorite podcasts that focus on the realities of motherhood. They are informitive, real and witty.

Atomic Moms with Ellie Knaus is a modern parenting podcast about the joys and complexities of caring for our children and ourselves. She covers some pretty hot topics, including the recent shooting in Miami and how to talk to your kids about it. If you want something a little more light-hearted, you can listen to my episode with Ellie HERE where we talk about getting stronger after baby.

Informed Pregnancy Podcast is hosted by Dr. Berlin, a prenatal chiropractor, where he interviews pregnancy and parenting experts, celebrities, and new and expectant parents searching for unbiased information on the most pressing topics for growing families. I’ve seen Dr. Berlin throughout my pregnancies and postpartum recoveries, and he has a true and honest passion for helping mamas have their best pregnancies and journies through motherhood. Dr. Berlin recently interviewed yours truly HERE

Motherhood in Hollywood with Heather Booker gives an honest and funny look at what life is like as a parent in the entertainment business. She is hilariously funny and shares personal stories, talks with her husband, interviews celebrity guests, producers, writers, musicians and anyone who loves to talk about movies and TV as much as she does. I was fortunate enough to be one of Heather’s first guests. You can listen to that episode HERE.

Health & Wellness:

Fit Bottomed Girls is the official podcast from the editors of Fit Bottomed Girls, Mamas, Eats and Zen, along with regular co-host Margo Donohue. I’ve worked with these women on other projects and love them to pieces. From interviews with experts on fitness, health, nutrition, meditation, food and more, plus some real talk, each episode is full of authentic discussions, tips and the info. You can listen to their interview with me HERE

The Perfection Detox with Petra Kolber consists of inspiring interviews with thought leaders, game changers, and everyday next door heros. If you’re not familiar with Petra, she is a well-known name in the fitness industry and a game changer herself, which is why her conversations are so creative and uplifting. She talks a lot about dropping the weight of perfectionism, self-doubt, and fear so that you can soar. I like to call her the “Oprah” of fitness, as I found myself talking (and crying) about things I hadn’t discussed in a podcast interview before. You can listen to my interview HERE

The Best Life Podcast with Danny Johnson and Jill Coleman is a newer podcast with two fitness and wellness powerhouses. They talk about everything from success, money, relationships, entrepreneurship, productivity, honest communication, positive psychology, and an abundance mindset. I’ve had the pleasure of really getting to know Danny over the past few years and recently met Jill as well, and I can tell you these two women are the real deal!

Pop Culture:

Okay these podcasts are for when I want something completely mindless. They talk about celebrity life and will probably, for the most part, just make you laugh.

The LadyGang Podcast with Keltie Knight, Jac Vanek, and Becca Tobin is a celebrity-driven podcast where no subject is off limits. The girls have a raw, honest, and hilarious look at what life is really like under the bright lights of Hollywood. I first started listening to this because Keltie and I knew each other from our dancing days in NYC.

The Ben and Ashley Almost Famous Podcast is only for you if you share my guilty pleasure of watching The Bachelor (or Bachelorette). The co-hosts are stars from the shows and report on the shenanigans of the Bachelor franchise as well as pop culture. This show makes me laugh like no other, and I love hearing the Bachelor gossip.

The Love Bomb with Nico Tortorella is a podcast that focuses a lot on love, relationships and the labels that go along with them. You’ll recognize him from the TV Land Show “Younger.” It can be a little hit or miss but super interesting and good storytelling.

AudioBooks:

This list is beyond random, but it’s my most recent top 3 audiobooks that have really held my attention.

The Miracle Morning by Hal Erod teaches you about the benefits of waking up an hour earlier each morning and how to do it.

TroubleMaker: Surviving Hollywood is Leah Remini’s fascinating story about how she escaped that Church of Scientology. I actually meant to read this one but it is so much more entertaining listen to her tell it.

The Skinny Rules by Bob Harper is a quick and easy listen. I’m not a big fan of the words “skinny” or “rules,” but I do like what he has to say in this book. They are easy reminders for how to stay fit and healthy.

Music:

I’m a big fan of Pandora. My 3 favorite stations currently that I’ve created are: Stitches Radio, Classical for Work Radio, & Hamilton (Original Broadway Cast) Radio. What are some of yours?

Here’s also a recent list of Music That Keeps Me Motivated that I think you’ll enjoy.

There is so much good stuff out there for you to “Get Listening” and treat yourself to a small daily dose of self-care. Would love to hear what some of your favorites are right now. Share in the comments!
