It’s Flab-Proof Friday, and I want to share with you two of my favorite workouts. The best part about all of these is that, starting next week, you can do these workouts with me, if you live in the Los Angeles area!
1) High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT): Short intense bursts of anaerobic (breathless) exercise followed by a short, less intense exercises (or even a rest period). This is one of the most efficient and effective ways to train. There are so many benefits! Research has shown over and over again that you can improve your aerobic capacity faster by training in short intervals, rather than endurance training. You’ll not only burn more calories while you’re working out but you’ll continue burning calories after you workout as well. Most importantly, by pushing yourself to an anaerobic level, you’ll strengthen your heart (the most important muscle in your body!).
On Monday nights from 6:30-7:30 PM, I’ll be teaching HIIT 220 at 220 Fitness in Santa Monica, which could be anything from a traditional Tabata to surprise interval sequences. I also teach METCON3 on Tuesday nights from 6:30-7:30 PM at Equinox Santa Monica. METCON3 is a series of 10 exercises. Each exercise is done for one minute back to back, so you don’t rest until the 10 minutes are over. You’re given some time to recover and then you repeat the sequence again. Both of these workouts, HIIT 220 and METCON3, are intense and challenging but promise results.
2) willPower & grace®: A barefoot training method that includes a fusion of all the best exercises around. It’s an integration of martial arts, yoga, pilates, calisthenics, dance principles, and even basic body sculpting. I love it because you get cardio, strength and flexibility all in one, plus a lot of philosophy to help ground you (no pun intended) and remind you of what’s really important in life. I teach it on Wednesday nights at 220 Fitness from 8:00-9:00 PM (link to http://www.220fitness.com). You can read more about it at http://www.willpowermethod.com .
If you’re in the LA area, let me know if you want to come to class! I’m allowed one guest per class at Equinox and 220 Fitness allows non-members for $15 per class! My teaching schedule is always available here.
