No, I’m not just biased because she’s my fellow red-head and friend . . . Amy Dixon is one of the best group fitness instructors around, and her workout DVDs are just as amazing. With over seven DVDs on the market, she makes life as a working mom look easy (something I truly admire). She admits, it’s a “balancing act that I continuously work on,” and “has learned to be more aware of when the scale tips too far in one direction.” Her two girls are her motivation: “All I want is to be a good example to my girls. I want to make them proud.”

Amy brings to her DVDs a realist approach to fitness while simultaneously pushing the consumer to work hard. Her newest DVD Breathless Body: The Edge brings a level of intensity that a lot of workout DVDs don’t often have. When I asked Amy how she describes what she does for a living, her realism (and humor) shined through as she answered, “I teach people how to do lunges, lift weights, swing kettlebells, and ride a bike that goes nowhere to amazing music.”

So for all of you who are waiting for me to put out a “non-pregnancy” DVD, I promise it’s coming, but in the meantime, I encourage you to check out Amy’s collection. I promise you won’t be disappointed. When I want my butt kicked, Amy’s classes at Equinox Santa Monica are some of the first that I head to!
