Happy Bump Day – Hump Day! I’ve been dedicating Wednesdays to writing about pregnancy and motherhood, but really this entire month should be dedicated to pregnancy because it’s Pregnancy Awareness Month. Since I know some of you probably aren’t aware, I thought I’d repost a blog I wrote last year that explains the history behind Pregnancy Awareness Month. My heart fills as I I look back on this article the year that has gone by since I wrote it. Landon was only 6 weeks old and I had just begone to blog about pregnancy. I can’t believe how much I’ve learned and changed in twelve months. Just for fun, here’s Landon and me now compared to the pic below from a year ago where he’s only six weeks old!
P.S. In honor of Pregnancy Awareness Month, I’m posting pregnancy tips & info on Facebook & Twitter, so make sure to follow along if you want more!

Let’s celebrate! It’s Pregnancy Awareness Month (PAM)! Never heard of it? Neither had I…until I joined the club and started doing some “googling.” Apparently, it’s been around since May 2008, with the goal of empowering pregnant women and their families. As a brand new mom and fitness advocate for pregnant women, I love the idea of having an entire month dedicated to supporting and honoring new moms and moms-to-be!
Here’s what PAM’s two founders, Anna Getty & Alisa Donner, have to say about pregnancy and why they created PAM:
“My life was altered not only by the birth of my daughter, but by the experience and choices I made as I prepared my body, mind and spirit to become pregnant and the incredible inward journey of pregnancy itself. In PAM we have adopted the tagline: “Motherhood Begins Now®,” and I really believe that. I took that message to heart before I actually became pregnant as a way to prepare my mind, body and household for this fabulous moment of creativity, and my life literally turned upside down, for the better.” (Anna Getty, March 2008)
“What I know from my experience as a pregnant woman, mom, and teacher is that talking, community, and mutual support is essential.” (Alisa Donner, June 2010)
I couldn’t agree more with both of these statements, which is why I’m taking this month to blog and share my thoughts, experiences, and opinions on pregnancy, pre and post natal. I hope, like Alisa, that I can provide a place for moms to ask questions, vent to each other, and share stories regarding their pregnancy and motherhood. I am by no means an expert on being a mom (my son was only born 6 weeks ago), so I hope you will take my blogs on motherhood as what they are – opinions. Think of this as “Deep Thoughts . . . by Sara Haley (if you’re old enough to remember that SNL skit). That said, I do have expertise in fitness, so I hope that you will consider my recommendations in that realm more seriously . . . I had trained pre and post natal clients prior to my own pregnancy and always followed the “rules” that I had learned in my pre/post natal workshops. My own pregnancy, however, has forced me to experience, reflect, and change some of my previous opinions on what I had learned. This is the information I look forward to sharing the most. Stay tuned…
